Gorilla tracking

Gorilla tracking is one of the most sought after things to do in Uganda . This attracts many foreign tourists and because of this, you need to book a gorilla tracking permit well in advance. A permit is needed because only a very few people can go close to the gorillas on a daily basis. The permits should be sought at least six months in advance to ensure that you get a slot. The bookings for the gorilla tracking have to be made with UWA in Kampala.

Gorilla tracking is quite a thrilling activity but however, it can be one of the more stressful ones also. This is because you are tracking a wild animal and while sightings in the parks in Uganda are common they are not guaranteed.

One is accompanied by a guide who knows the ways of the gorillas and throughout the tracking, shares his knowledge with the tourists. This can take a long time and as you are travelling in a forest you should be wearing comfortable shoes, carrying sun tan, sunglasses, umbrellas, binoculars, food and water with you. Once you spot a gorilla, one shouldn't create noise of wave arms at them as these are perceived as dangerous actions by the gorilla. It is not allowed to use cameras with flashes too, as this scares gorillas.

In case a gorilla approaches you,you are advised to slowly back away and maintain a distance which is at least five meters.
